Our Story: A Legacy Rooted in Ranching

Bennett Livestock is more than just a cattle operation—it is a living, breathing testament to generations of dedication, resilience, and passion for ranching. Our journey began on a farm in eastern North Carolina, where our family first cultivated a love for agriculture and livestock. Over time, that love evolved into a deep-rooted commitment to raising high-quality cattle, and eventually, our legacy found its true home in the vast, open landscapes of Montana.

Today, four generations of our family work side by side, carrying forward the values and traditions that have been passed down through the years. With each sunrise over the Montana horizon, we wake up with a shared purpose—to steward the land, raise superior cattle, and ensure that future generations continue to thrive in this way of life.

Our Ranch: Montana’s Big Sky, Our Home

Located in Eastern Montana, twenty miles west of Miles City, our ranch stands as a symbol of hard work, perseverance, and commitment to excellence. For over 32 years, we have expanded our acreage, improved our pastures, and incorporated irrigation systems that allow us to sustain the land and provide the best possible feed for our cattle.

Our operation is built around sustainability, ethical ranching, and a deep respect for the land. We believe that healthy cattle come from healthy environments, which is why we carefully manage our pastures, implement rotational grazing, and grow the majority of our own feed right here on the ranch. With each step we take, we aim to leave our land better than we found it—ensuring that our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren can continue this legacy for generations to come.

Our Cattle: Raised with Care, Fed with Quality

At Bennett Livestock, we take great pride in raising high-quality cattle. Our calving season begins in late March and lasts for about sixty days, ensuring that each newborn calf gets the care and attention it deserves. By mid-May, our cattle are moved to lush pastures, where they graze freely until November.

When the time comes for weaning in November, our calves transition to a carefully balanced diet of silage, grain, and hay—all grown on our ranch. This approach ensures that they develop strong, healthy bodies and maintain the exceptional quality of meat that our customers have come to expect.

Each year, we select 50 of our best heifers to keep as replacements, ensuring that our herd continues to improve in quality and genetics. The remaining heifers, along with our steers, are sold in January. Our grain-finished steers are fed a high-quality ration that allows them to reach 1,400 pounds, producing beef that is rich in flavor, tender, and of the highest standard.

Our Mission: Quality, Sustainability, and Family Values

Our mission at Bennett Livestock is simple:
To provide the highest-quality, locally-raised beef to families who appreciate knowing exactly where their food comes from.
To uphold ethical ranching practices that prioritize the health and well-being of our cattle.
To practice responsible land stewardship, ensuring that our pastures, water sources, and soil remain healthy for future generations.
To maintain the integrity of family-owned agriculture, preserving the traditions that make ranching not just a business, but a way of life.

Everything we do is guided by these principles, ensuring that when you choose Bennett Livestock, you are not just purchasing beef—you are supporting a family, a legacy, and a commitment to doing things the right way.

Our Commitment to Sustainability

Sustainability is at the core of our operation. We recognize that ranching is not just about raising cattle; it’s about maintaining a balance between agriculture, nature, and future generations. Over the years, we have implemented several sustainable practices, including:

  • Rotational Grazing: Moving cattle between pastures to prevent overgrazing and promote healthy soil.
  • Irrigated Farming: Using efficient irrigation systems to grow alfalfa, corn, and cover crops that support soil health and reduce reliance on external feed sources.
  • Locally Grown Feed: Nearly all the feed our cattle consume is grown right here on our ranch, ensuring freshness, nutrition, and a lower environmental impact.
  • Wildlife Conservation: Working alongside nature to preserve open spaces and maintain habitats for local wildlife.

By focusing on these principles, we are not only improving our ranching practices but also ensuring that the land remains productive and vibrant for years to come.

A Family Business Built on Trust

At the heart of Bennett Livestock is family. We believe that the best beef comes from ranches where the land is respected, the cattle are cared for with integrity, and the people behind the operation are dedicated to doing things right.

When you choose Bennett Livestock, you’re not just buying beef—you’re becoming part of a tradition that spans generations. You’re supporting a family-owned business that values transparency, trust, and the hard work that goes into producing premium-quality beef.

Thank you for supporting ranchers who care. We look forward to sharing our beef—and our story—with you.
